Google Docs Addition and Photo Editing

Passing on some news about Google Docs from the google blog............

Table of Contents, Dictionary and Thesaurus in Google Docs

It's no longer necessary to use bookmarklets if you want to add a table of contents in Google Docs because this feature is now available in the interface:

Insert > Table of contents. To add a table of contents, your document needs to include headings from the Format menu.

Google Docs actually creates a bookmark for each heading from the document and displays the bookmarks hierarchically using lists. Unsurprisingly, when you open the document in Microsoft Word, the application treats the table of contents created in Google Docs as a list.

You can find more information about a word directly from Google Docs: click on the Tools menu and look up the word.

Did you hear about Sweetbay?

From Consumerist.com
"A security breach at the Hannaford east coast supermarket chain has lead to the exposure of some 4.2 million credit cards. The company said it was aware of at least 1,800 cases of fraud directly connected to the breach. If you shopped at Hannaford's from Dec. 7 to March 10., when the breach is thought to have occurred, now is a great time to close your current credit and debit cards and get new ones.

From AP
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A security breach at an East Coast supermarket chain exposed 4.2 million credit and debit card numbers and led to 1,800 cases of fraud, the Hannaford Bros. grocery chain announced Monday.
Hannaford said credit and debit card numbers were stolen during the card authorization process and about 4.2 million unique account numbers were exposed.
The breach affected all of its 165 stores in the Northeast, 106 Sweetbay stores in Florida and a smaller number of independent groceries that sell Hannaford products.
The company is aware of about 1,800 cases of fraud reported so far relating to the breach.
Ronald Hodge, president and CEO of the Maine-based company, said it has "taken aggressive steps to augment our network security capabilities" since unusual credit card activity came to light on Feb. 27.
The Massachusetts Bankers Association said Monday that about one-third of its 200 member banks have been contacted by Visa and MasterCard, alerting them that some of the credit and debit cards the banks issued could be at risk.
The bankers association said the breach reportedly occurred from Dec. 7 to March 10.

Google Maps Enhanced with Weather Channel Data

Google teamed up with The Weather Channel to create interactive layers that overlay weather data and radar information on top of Google Maps.

To use the feature click on the Google Maps' My Maps tab and select The Weather Channel feature to begin exploring.

The new service allows you to see current weather conditions and forecasts at a glance from across the globe as you view Google Maps. Everything from severe weather alerts, cloud coverage, and more can also be added to your view.

Planning a trip using Google Maps just got a little easier and useful. Google teamed up with The Weather Channel to create interactive layers that overlay weather data and radar information on top of Google Maps.

.....this service will really shine when it works with Google Maps' directions feature.

Imagine how cool it would be to plan a multi-day road trip using Google Maps and then have Google anticipate the weather along the way - possibly suggest an alternate route based on blue skies. My fingers are crossed.

You can read more at PCWorld
